There is not an expectation to do all these activities but they are there as an ongoing resource and to support individual needs. It may be more suitable for your child to focus on recognising the days of the week, capitals at the beginning and the repetition of “day”. Playing the snap game regularly will help and would suffice .

This week in History we are thinking of the words that we use when talking about the passage of time. We use days of the week and months of the year when talking about the passage of time. We also use the words “Yesterday” ..”Today”….”Tomorrow”.

t-l-1981-days-of-the-week-yesterday-and-tomorrow-activity-sheet-_ver_3

We can also think about things that happened “in the past” .Can you draw a picture of yourself when you were a baby. That was in the past. You could write on the word “Past”. Then try remembering “The Gunpowder Plot” story. We discovered about this story in class. Those events happened long ago. Try drawing a picture for that story. Can you add the words “Long Ago”. With your carer ,you might think of other ideas  for  events “in the past” and “long ago.”

PSHCE

We are thinking about “What makes us happy?”

Along with your carer , think of things that make you happy. We can’t always do those things all the time , and sometimes it’s not possible to do them but we can do other things that can make us happy. Sometimes these can be really small things but we can fit in our “Happy Activities” throughout our day.

This link will lead you to the Ruth Miskin Read Write Inc Youtube channel. If you child is in Set 1 blending or Ditty group, watch the Set 1 videos. If your child is in Red, Green or Purple group, watch the Set 2 videos and if your child is in Pink or Orange group, watch the Set 3 videos. If your child does not know which group they are in, send me a message on Seesaw and I will let you know which videos to watch.

Your child should watch the Speed Sound video and the corresponding Spelling video each day. The videos are uploaded at 9.30am and are available for 24 hours. Don’t worry if you miss a sound, just move on to the next one.

Children watching the Set 2 and Set 3 sounds should also watch the Read and Hold a Sentence 1 videos. They will need a pen or pencil and paper for this task.

Your child could also watch the Red Word videos- these are tricky words that we learn to read and spell in Year 1. Children should watch Red Words 1 unless they are in Pink or Orange group. These children should watch Red Words 2.

English

Week Beginning 04. 01. 21

This week we are going to be looking at capital letters. Sometimes we call these “uppercase letters” and the smaller letters are called “lowercase letters”. At first we want to recognise these letters as capitals or uppercase letters . Our first task  is to match these to the lowercase letters that we are more familiar with. There are a couple of examples for you to record on. If you finish the task then your adult could write some capital letters and you could match them to lowercase letters that you or your adult has written.

Next there are handwriting sheets to help with forming capital letters. Remember to start your letters from the top and use your helping hand.

Use the sheets with the lowercase letters  and empty box underneath for you to write the uppercase letters. Use your alphabet sheet to help at first .Then do the same for the uppercase / capital letters and you write the lower case in the box.

What do we use capital letters for?

Have a think and talk with your adult about where you have seen capital letters.

I bet you thought of your names. Perhaps you can write your full name and names of your friends. What other things did you come up with?

Have a look at the power point for ideas.

Try writing the “days of the week” or” months of the year” or sentences with a capital at the beginning. What else begins with a capital letter?

…And just like that, it’s the final week of Summer Term!😲

Hi Class 2 and 3!

We cannot believe that it is our final week of this school year. It seems like only yesterday that we were reading Class 2 at the zoo and Class 3 all at sea, sharing our hopes and goals for our time together in Year 1 !

We want you all to know that it has been our absolute privilege and pleasure to teach you this year- whenever we told you that you were amazing and that we were proud we truly meant it! You are all fantastic just the way you are!🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤🤍

This year has been an unusual one. You have experienced things that no-one ever has before and have learned how to learn in a brand new way. We want you to know how proud we are of how you have all adapted to this, continued to learn and, most importantly, continued to smile! we have missed you all terribly over the past few months but being able to communicate with each other on Seesaw has given us some sense of normality and routine and made us smile every day! 😊🌈

We cannot wait to see you all at school in September! We are looking forward to catching up with each and every one of you. You will be finding out this week who your new teacher will be- whoever it is, they are a very, very lucky person!

As always, complete whatever home learning you can this week but also take some time to think about this year and all of the things you have achieved in school and during your time at home. If there is anything you need to finish from the last few weeks take some time this week to complete that.

Don’t forget to complete your class pictures and send them through Seesaw or the school email address. 💙

Sending you all lots of love and virtual hugs,

Mrs. Jeavons and Mrs Jones 🥰💜🌈

Week 11 06.07.2020

As we prepare to welcome the first groups of children back into school, we at Etherley Lane want to ensure that all of our children, whether they are continuing to learn at home or learning at school, continue to have the opportunity to access the same, high-quality learning experiences. We want to be as consistent as we possibly can be and, with this in mind, we are going to use Oak National Academy resources as our main tool for home and school learning. Oak National Academy is a collection of high-quality lessons and online resources, backed by the Government. Each online classroom on their website offers free access to video lessons, quizzes and worksheets.

From Monday 8th June, the Maths and English activities on each class page on our website that are usually uploaded will be replaced by the link to the relevant online classroom for your child’s year group. Each day, there will be a Maths and English activity provided that we would like your child to complete. Answers to activities will be provided during the activities and instant feedback is given after any given quizzes have been completed.

Where relevant, children may be also be asked to complete the Foundation activity each day. This could be linked to a particular topic or theme suitable for your child’s year group and these Foundation activities will replace the activity grids uploaded onto the class pages of the website every two weeks.

We feel that the introduction of Seesaw as a way of sharing learning and communicating with each other during this time has been extremely successful. We miss the children terribly and love that we are still able to be part of your children’s lives even though we cannot physically be with them. We will continue to use Seesaw the way that we do now; each week your child’s class teacher will set two activities for your child to complete. Your child’s class teacher will then give feedback on what they have done.

We really appreciate how hard you are all working during this time to support your children with their home learning and you are all doing an amazing job.

If you have any questions or queries regarding your child’s home learning, please do not hesitate to contact us using the main school email address.

Week 1 and 2 Year 1 Grid

Here in Year 1 everyday is a learning day with so many opportunities to discover new things, develop new skills and lots of exciting challenges.

Our Year 1 teachers are Mrs Jones and Mrs Jeavons, supported by Mrs Gregory, Mrs Graham and  Mrs Walton.

Class 2

Mrs Jones

Hello, I am Mrs Jones and I am so happy to be part of your child’s learning journey. I love being part of the the Year 1 “family” and I am so proud of everyone here at Etherley Lane.

I have had various roles in my time at Etherley Lane School and I am currently the Art and Design/Design and Technology Co-ordinator. I have studied for a PGCE course and a Diploma in Art and Design to support my role.

Sharing the excitement when children learn new things and watching them develop new interests is the best job in the world! Every day is a learning day for us all- discovering new things and working on new challenges.

Outside of school, I love reading all sorts of books and I am passionate about all aspects of art and design and architecture. I love to visit galleries and new places. I like visiting local nature reserves linked to Durham Wildlife Trust and supporting the RSPB by feeding the birds that visit my garden. I’m so excited when I see a new bird visiting! I have two children and I follow their chosen sports with great enthusiasm even when it’s tough.

Mrs Gregory

Hello, I’m Mrs Gregory and I joined the Etherley Lane in 2016 during this time I have worked in Key Stage 1.  I currently support in Year 2 (Class 5)and deliver RWI in Early Years and Year 1. Also, I deliver RWI interventions to develop children’s phonics and reading skills, I love watching the children progress and becoming more confident with reading. I have a passion for supporting children to help them reach their full potential.

Outside of school I have 3 children Daniel, Owen and Thea. I love spending time with my family, going out for walks and trips to the park – especially when we have a picnic!

Class 3

Mrs Jeavons

Hi I’m Mrs Jeavons! I started teaching in 2002 and have been at Etherley Lane ever since. I have had many different roles within our school having had the opportunity to teach across Early Years, Key Stage 1 and 2.  Currently as well as being one of our Year 1 teachers I am also EYFS Leader, Maths Lead and Assistant Head teacher. I love to come to school every day as it is such an enjoyable and exciting place to be. No two days are ever the same and there is always something new and exciting happening.

Outside of school, I love to spend time with my family. I am married with two children Sam and Martha. We love to be active and enjoy keeping fit and having fun together outdoors. I love music and am often caught singing along to songs.
