Rights Respecting School
In December 2017 Etherley Lane Primary School was awarded the UNICEF UK Rights Respecting School Award Level 1.
This means that the following are being embedded in our school:
- Knowledge and understanding of the CRC (Convention on the Rights of the Child)
- A Rights-Respecting ethos
- Empowerment of children and young people
You can find out more about these rights at the UNICEF website www.unicef.org.uk. We are delighted that the Level 1 award recognises that the values and principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child are filtering through aspects of our school community.
Our children learn about their rights and about the importance of respecting the rights of others. We believe that by understanding their own rights children learn to appreciate and uphold the rights of others.
All children have been involved in developing Class Charters which outline expectations for behaviour in the classroom.
All classes have a Class Charter here are some examples. They are linked to the United Nations Rights of the Child. (UNCRC).
The Rights Respecting Group meets regularly to plan and make decisions about how we can develop our learning about children’s rights.
